Movement,

Stillness,

Connection

Kula (कुल) is a Sanskrit term with many meanings, depending on the lineage. Most commonly, it refers to a sense of belonging, support, and being a part of a cohesive whole.

In Hawaiian, it means a source, school, or—our founder's favorite color—gold :)

Located in the heart of South Burlington, Kula: Yoga, Fitness, Social Lounge is more than just a movement space—it's a sanctuary for reconnecting with yourself and others, not only through movement but also through self reflective practices and meaningful, active engagement.

At its core, Kula fosters personal and individual connection that is rooted in mutual support and creative collaboration.

We welcome you wherever you are in your practice—whether you love deep philosophical discussions and spiritual reflection, simply want to move your body, or root into stillness. This is a welcoming space with endless possibilities to create and explore together!

all the goodness

in one place.

Why another movement studio?

Vermont is home to many incredible studios and talented instructors! After years of teaching at some truly inspiring spaces, we realized there were key elements we wanted to emphasize more intentionally—so we created a place where they all come together.

At Kula, you’ll find a welcoming environment where movement, mindfulness, and connection thrive. Our diverse classes encourage both outer and inner exploration, led by dedicated instructors who are fairly compensated for their passion and expertise.

Beyond regular studio classes, our After Hours Social Lounge offers a weekly space for creativity, conversation, and community—fostering genuine connections and mutual support in a substance-free environment.

Our Values & Expectations

Fostering a Sense of Belonging

Creating a welcoming and inclusive environment starts with the small things; learning each other's names, offering warm greetings, and ensuring accessibility for movement and stillness alike.

Commitment to Lifelong Learning

Teaching is an ever-evolving practice. We value scientific and clinical research while recognizing that some knowledge has yet to be "proven." We foster a culture of continuous education, critical analysis, and adaptability.

Inclusivity as a Baseline

We uphold a commitment to inclusivity, recognizing that what may seem like extra effort is simply the bare minimum. This includes using correct pronouns, respecting class descriptions (style, duration, intensity), and ensuring a space that welcomes individuals of all races, genders, and identities. If a teacher or student ever feels unsafe, we will engage in further discussion to address concerns thoughtfully.

Trauma-Sensitive Teaching

We acknowledge the power dynamics within a studio setting and commit to teaching with awareness, care, and respect. We recognize the impact of trauma on individuals in group spaces and actively avoid diet talk, body and food shaming, hate speech, and harassment.

Creativity & Exploration

We encourage innovation—exploring new ways of teaching, engaging, and evolving. How can we make our offerings more impactful, meaningful, and fulfilling? Let’s continuously contemplate how we can do better and have more fun.

Connection with Self & Community

We honor each individual’s experience while remaining mindful of how our actions affect others. Balancing self-care with community care fosters a stronger, more supportive space for all.

Integrity in Action

We move and communicate within the studio with honesty, respect, and conscientiousness, ensuring that our actions align with our values.

Reciprocity & Sustainability

Our work is a two-way exchange—offering high-quality, meaningful experiences while receiving fair financial and energetic compensation. A sustainable balance allows us all to thrive. At the same time, we believe finances shouldn’t be a barrier to accessing meaningful spaces. To support this, we offer free community classes, regular donation-based activities, and work-trade opportunities.
